ELY centres
What are ELY centres?
Finland has 15 Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment or ELY centres in a shorter form. They are part of the government’s regional administration with tasks related to promoting regional competitiveness, well-being and sustainable development, as well as curbing climate change.
Not all centres address all three areas of responsibility (Economic development, Transport and the Environment), as they may handle duties on each other's behalf. In Järviwiki we are interested in the state of lakes and water protection and the relevant ELY centre is therefore the one addressing the environment area of responsibility.
13 ELY centres handle the environment area of responsibility of their own district. The environment area of responsibility on two ELY centres behalf are addressed by their neighbouring centres. The ELY of Varsinais-Suomi is addressing the environment area of responsibility on behalf of the ELY of Satakunta and the ELY of Etelä-Pohjanmaa is addressing the environment area of responsibility on behalf of the ELY of Pohjanmaa
